This weekend I was able to host my first clinic. I had 5 kids who all go to FRA come. I also had a friend who had volunteered to help join me in the clinic. In the being, since I did not know many of the kids very well. After a little while of just talking and shooting around the kids seemed ready to play game. I had come up with a few little games that I had played at some basketball clinics when I was younger, but the kids did not seem very into it. I then decided to ask the kids what they wanted to do, to which they replied, "Let's play hide and seek!". You might be wondering how would you play hide in seek in an empty gym, but that did not prevent us from running around finding hiding spots. I learned that when working with kids it is very hard to get their attention, so there is no need to get frustrated when not everything is going to plan. Even though we did not play much basketball until the last 15 minutes where we just passed the ball around and talked, I think that everyone had a great time. At the end I received many thanks from both parents and kids. I really think the parents were happy to have a little break from taking care of the children even for just a little while. Thanks!
Hey Harrison! Congratulations on your first clinic! Glad the kids enjoyed it. I do have one suggestion based on my presentations for my GH project: with younger kids, always make sure that your clinic seems less like what they would do in PE at school. That way, they'll have even more fun, and will learn even more!
ReplyDeleteHarrison, I am glad you are greatly benefiting from your first clinic. Keep up the good spirits and the clinics, and you will have way more than five FRA kids come to your clinic. The positivity will attract people to your clinics like crazy. Good job, Harrison.
ReplyDeleteHarrison, I am glad to see your growth through this whole project. Even though the clinic might not have been what you wanted, it is good to see that you were still able to let the kids have fun which is really what matters.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first! Anyway, I good job on bringing your plans to fruition over the weekend. I hope it was a lot of fun! I wonder what the parents think of your clinic.
ReplyDeleteHey Harrison, congratulations on having your first clinic. Maybe next time if you choose to do another clinic you could bring other activities like a frisbee. Keep up the good work.
